About Havoc Comic

This website is designed for desktop and laptop browsers. It may not display properly on a mobile device.

Havoc was a short-lived UK weekly anthology comic published by Marvel UK from July - September 1991. Besides some era-specific editorial content, the story aspect consisted entirely of reprint from existing US titles. But it had one notable difference: it was published at proper UK comic size, not the smaller US comic format.

It lasted just nine issues before folding. I have all nine, bought at the time from a local corner shop, the kind that had a small number of staff, most of whom lived locally and knew the name of almost every customer. The lady that ran the shop reserved many, many comics for me. They were all UK titles, because she didn't stock import magazines.

The purpose of the blog is a space to record my thoughts about the comic. If all goes to plan, it'll take nine weeks in total, beginning on the date of the first issue and ending on the date of the last, albeit twenty-nine years after the fact. I thought about waiting a year and doing it on the thirtieth anniversary, but there's too much other stuff to do.

Ideally the posts would display in chronological order, so that Issue 01 is positioned above Issue 02, etc, but at time of writing the limited Blogger interface doesn't allow such a simple and useful thing to happen without a hack.

Once the nine issues have been reviewed, I'll be shutting shop but will leave it listed for archive purposes. If my ramblings are of some use or interest to other comic book readers, that's a cool bonus.

NOTE: in each case, the quote that opens the post has been taken from the strip that features on that issue's cover.
